I wouldn't call it 'copying', Indie. Everything creative sees us including elements inspired by other people's work, and unless you directly copy parts or trace over, it's merely being influenced.
The sprite looks nice! A little comment - the purple highlight shade looks a touch too bright, and the highlights on the clothing aren't drawn with top down lighting in mind, which is generally the best lighting style to adopt for simplicity's sake.
